The Mining Code 2015, amended in 2018, regulates all operations related to mineral exploitation including activities such as mine development, extraction, treatment, processing, beneficiation, and marketing of minerals. The regulatory framework for the sector includes Law 028-2017/AN on gold marketing and other precious metals. Other substantive laws within the regulatory framework for the mining sector can be found below. The law is available on the official website of the National Geological Service of Burkina Faso (www.bumigeb.bf/BUMIGEB/Pages/codeminier202015_cnt.pdf) with the official version only in French. The government regulatory entity is the Ministry of Mines, Quarries and Energy (http://www.mines.gov.bf). The country's mining contracts are available at: https://www.resourcecontracts.org.
As a member of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (also known by its French acronym, UEMOA), Burkina Faso is also governed by the Community Mining Code issued under Regulation N°02/2023/CM/UEMOA.
