Doutorando em Direito, é Mestre em Direito de Energia pela Universidade Paris 1 Panthéon-Sarbonne, em Paris, França, em 2015 depois de ter obtido a licenciatura na Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa, Portugal.
É desde 2016 conselheiro jurídico do Ministério da Energia e dos Recursos Naturais da Guiné-Bissau como, onde tem a oportunidade para impulsionar diversas reformas legislativas no sector mineiro e energético no país, onde trabalhou com equipa de African Legal Support Facility, na revisão de contratos mineiros entre a Guiné-Bissau e as empresas mineiras. Como jurista representando o meu país, participei na aprovação e importação de diplomas legais no domínio dos recursos naturais das intuições regionais da África Ocidental.
Desde fevereiro de 2019, faz parte da Legal Research Team da AMLA.
I am a Mozambican national, holding a degree in Law from the Eduardo Mondlane University and Trainee Lawyer at the Bar Association of Mozambique.
My interest in the extractive industry started when I participated in the Africa Energy Forum in Denmark in 2017 which then led me to write my dissertation on the Taxation of Capital Gains Arising from the Sale of Shares in the Oil and Gas Industry. Besides that, I won a research contest on the topic of the Mandatory listing on the Stock Exchange of Mozambican Companies with reference to the Mining and Petroleum legislation.
Since 2018 I have been working for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as consultant on Corporate and International Tax which includes assisting clients in the mining sector.
Furthermore, since 2017 I have been working as volunteer in the End Ecocide on Earth - Centre for the Progressive International Law.
Lastly, during my studies I was a consultant for the Kaya Clinic and Legal Practice Centre of the Faculty of Law at my University aimed at providing legal assistance on Land Law and related issues, to people from the community in financial need who cannot afford the legal fees.
I was selected to become a Legal Research Team member of 2019 following the annual AMLA workshop held in 2018. My career aspirations include becoming an Intellectual Authority in the Legal and Extractive sector.

Je suis Actuellement Doctorante en droit International et comparé dans la même faculté et ma thèse traite des problématiques relatives à la concurrence et à la distribution.
Mon parcours universitaire de recherche scientifique en Droit des Affaires m'a permis de découvrir dans le droit minier une matière assez riche, innovante et intéressante.
Fort d’une exposition aux questions relatives à l'exploitation minière, j’ai eu l'opportunité de participer en décembre 2018 à l'atelier de formation AMLA de la Facilité Africaine de Soutien Juridique (ALSF).
Je suis maintenant membre de l’équipe de recherche juridique du Projet AMLA, et suis amenée à poursuivre une formation à distance sur la collecte, l’analyse et la mise en ligne de données juridiques sur le droit minier Africain.
I hold a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree from Rhodes University and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. I am pursuing a Master of Laws degree in the field of International and Economic Law with focus on the Economics of International Trade and Investment, Advanced International Law, International Trade Law, International Business Transactions and Prospecting and Mining Law. My thesis discusses the feasibility of the African Continental Free Trade Area through an analysis of the geopolitics in Africa’s Regional Economic Communities. Part of my research touches on the role extractive industries can play in enhancing intra-African trade and how best we can overcome some of the challenges plaguing the extractive industries sector for purposes of promoting trade in Africa.
I have worked for various organizations and firms as a researcher and consultant and serve as Fellow of the Constitutional Literacy and Service Initiative (CLASI). CLASI is an initiative that educates high school learners about basic legal concepts and the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. I am currently serving as a Legal Research Team member for the AMLA Project in 2019 having participated in the 2018 AMLA Workshop held in Kigali, Rwanda.

Suite à l’atelier de formation sur la législation minière africaine (AMLA) de 2018 lors duquel j’ai été introduit au droit minier dans tous ses aspects et implications, j’ai eu l’honneur et la chance d’intégrer l’Equipe de Recherche Juridique de AMLA pour l’année 2019.
Cette opportunité, au-delà de la vocation qu’elle a suscitée en moi, me permettra à coup sûr de me construire non seulement en tant qu’intellectuel mais aussi en tant qu’homme au contact de toutes ces merveilleuses personnes venant des quatre coins de l’Afrique et du monde.

I am an enthusiastic, LLB graduate and recent LLM graduate, under the programme Extractive Industries Law in Africa awarded from the University of Pretoria. My interest lies within the oil, gas and mining sector. I have a business acumen, with sound theoretical knowledge on the extractive industry. The masters programme included topics such as mining investments, project finance, aspects of land access and use, mining and petroleum models, environmental and social challenges with respect to the extractive sector. In addition to those topics I also learnt about treaties and conventions that affect the extractive industry, including international trade law and the Extractive industry transparency initiative. I have an interest in community development and therefore, my research focused on the investigation into the role of law in managing community engagements between mining companies, government and community. I believe in business growth and value addition within a country or organization. Therefore, I am currently working on a project that seeks to develop a regulatory framework for Artisanal Small Scale miners in Africa on a voluntary and individual basis.
Je suis Sarah MUKAMBILWA TAWA, originaire de la République Démocratique du Congo et membre de l’Equipe de Recherche juridique (ERJ) du Projet African Mining Legislation Atlas (AMLA) depuis Mars 2019. J’ai été sélectionnée suite à ma participation à l’atelier de formation sur la législation minière organisé par la Facilité Africaine de Soutien Juridique à Kigali, Rwanda.
Juriste de formation, je suis titulaire d’un Master dénommé juriste d’affaires depuis 2017 de la faculté des sciences juridiques, économiques et sociales Mohamed V – Souissi au Maroc.
Je suis actuellement doctorante au sein de la même université depuis 2018 et développe une thèse portant sur « le droit de la régulation économique en Afrique ».
Par ailleurs, je suis également consultante au sein d’une multinationale implantée au Maroc.
Cette formation représente pour moi l’opportunité d’approfondir mes connaissances sur les questions transversales du secteur minier notamment la protection de l’environnement et l’automatisation. C’est surtout l’occasion de comprendre les rouages de ce secteur qui domine mon pays d’origine la RDC et dans lequel je voudrai un jour évoluer.
Grace à AMLA, cet objectif est désormais possible.
After participating in the 2018 AMLA workshop hosted by the University of Kigali in Rwanda, I was selected, through a competitive selection process, to become a Member of the Legal Research Team (LRT).
I hold a Master II in Private Law, and my research paper was entitled: "Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by multinationals: Study in labor law", under the co-supervision of Prof. SILUÉ Nanga and Dr. YÉO Nawa. I am a CSR specialist in Sub-Saharan Africa, a PhD student and Member in Laboratory of Law and Development Studies in Ivory Coast (LEDD-CI). My research interests include CSR Law, Mining Law, Labor Law, Investment Law in Africa, Sustainable Development and Local Content Law.
Previously, I volunteered for a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) called "Rights for All", as a Human Rights Outreach Project Manager and Independent Electoral Observer on behalf of ''Open Society Initiative for West Africa"(OSIWA).
Currently, I teach at the Faculty of Law in my University and I oversee planning at the Tutoring Center. I firmly believe that the idea and the creation of the AMLA is a blessing for Africa, and a factor that will contribute to the development of our belovedContinent.
My name is Victoria N. Gitau, a Kenyan national. I am currently pursing my LLB degree at Strathmore University, Nairobi where I shall soon be commencing my final year. I have also obtained a certificate in Oral Advocacy by Conference of Western Attorneys General (CWAG) and African Alliance Partnership (AAP) in conjunction with the Office of the Attorney General (OAG).
Since 2017, I have worked at and sat in the board of the Strathmore Law Review, a double-blinded, student-run and student edited law review where I started out as an associate editor, then became a senior editor and more recently fulfil the role of the internal peer review editor as well as partake in mentorship responsibilities.
I have participated in legal literature through my publication of ‘The problem of sports betting in Kenya: Striking a balance between private profit and public good’; as well as through editing a book: The Constitution of Kenya 2010: An introductory commentary by PLO Lumumba and Luis G. Franceschi as part of and leader of a select team of student editors.
The 2018 AMLA workshop was a hallmark learning experience for me as it exposed me to the different nuances considered in the formation and the implementation of mining legislation. I am particularly interested in African states optimizing the investment and contractual obligations between states and investors. As part of the LRT for 2019, I am rewarded by the knowledge gathered during research in enriching the AMLA platform to help Africa attain this economic goal.
